Technical Definitions & Counting Works
The use of works from repertoires managed by SESAM is covered by different conditions depending on the type of work:
a. Audiovisual Works
- Under the present schedules of rates, SESAM issues a license authorizing the use of audiovisual works running for a maximum of 6 (six) minutes, that being less than 10% (ten per cent) of the total length of the work and featuring visuals and sound track without any changes or cuts.
When the same audiovisual work is played on the site a number of times, the total duration of the excerpts presented must be no more than 15% (fifteen per cent) of the total duration of the audiovisual production.
b. Works of Music
- Under the present schedules of rates, SESAM issues a license authorizing the use of works of music for a maximum of 45 (forty-five) seconds, that being less than 20% (twenty per cent) of the total duration of the work, without any cuts.
Works presented as "music video clips" or "video music" are included in the category of "works of music" and are covered by the technical restrictions stated above.
c. Graphics and Visual Art Works
- Under the present schedules of rates, SESAM issues a license authorizing use of a still picture in a format with definition no greater than 500 x 500 pixels and resolution of 72DPI.
d. Text
- Under the present schedules of rates, text is counted on the basis of a folio of 1 500 printed characters, i.e. 25 lines of 60 signs by the same author. Each new folio is counted as an additional work.
